How to get the Youth Vote out in strong numbers for Democrats

For the last year, College Democrats across the nation have been working tirelessly to Get Out The Vote for our nation's youth.

College Democrats of NY Plan Ambitious GOTV Efforts

The College Democrats of NY have ramped up their efforts for Barack Obama and the Democratic ticket with less than a week left to go before the election. Over 600 college students will be on the ground in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Virginia and New Hampshire for this Get Out The Vote weekend and through Election Day. A total of 140 students will be going to Virginia for five straight days, while 420 will be going to Pennsylvania and another group of students is heading to New Hampshire to campaign for Jean Shaheen for Senate and Obama for America.

NYU College Dems register 762 new voters in 3 hours!

Yesterday, the NYU College Democrats held a massive campus voter registration drive that was a tremendous success. Harnessing the excitement and energy of their membership, the NYU College Democrats set up voter registration tables in every residence building from 7pm-10pm. The focus of the event was not only to signup students to vote in New York, but to target students living in battleground states and get them filling out absentee ballots as well.

NYS Young Dems & College Dems meet to Gear up For Election Season

This past Saturday, the NYS Young Democrats organization, led by President Matt Silverstein held their monthly executive board meeting in Broome County in upstate NY. The significance of the meeting location was two-fold: it would enable me to attend my first NYS Young Dems meeting as President of NYS College Democrats, and it would increase attendance at the Broome County Young Democrats fundraiser later that evening. Every month, the NYS Young Democrats hold their executive board meeting at a different Young Democrats chapter location.

Liberal college students fight to retake the class discussion

I was sitting in class the other day during political psychology, taking notes about race relations in the United States and less than five minutes into the class discussion, Barack Obama's name came up, sparking an hour long debate in the class.

NY College Dems goes to CDA/DNC Conventions

On Thursday August 21 and Friday August 22, 30 members from the NY College Democrats state federation will be flying into Denver, Colorado to attend the College Democrats of America Convention.  The Convention kicks off with a bang with Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean speaking on Friday, followed by a video tribute to College Democrats by our next president, Barack Obama.  The Convention will be packed with events, speakers, panels and parties.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
