Why getting the Employee Free Choice Act passed is so important

Since 2007, Democrats have been trying to get the Employee Free Choice Act passed in Congress with not much luck. The bill passed through the House of Reps in 2007 by a vote of 241 to 185 but failed to get the 60 votes of cloture to end debate in the Senate, as the vote to end debate was 51 to 48.

Gov Paterson writes about his budget proposal online

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, Governor Paterson has posted several times on New York's liberal blog website, The Albany Project and on the biggest liberal blog, Daily Kos. In his latest post that came out today, the Governor describes the monumental task at hand of balancing a NYS budget with a huge deficit. His blog post can be read here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/12/29/164447/47/872/674426 I personally campaigned hard in upstate NY to get Spitzer elected and I remember shaking hands with Paterson at a debate watch party in Cornell during the election season.

Harry Reid, NY Post, Rep Slaughter endorse Kennedy for Senate

Today the NY Post came out with a strong endorsement of Caroline Kennedy for Senate. The endorsement cites Kennedy's strong background in promoting education in NYC, her toughness, and her closeness with President-elect Obama as a member of his Vice Presidential search committee during the campaign season as reasons why she would be the best choice for Governor Paterson to appoint her to Clinton's seat.

New Yorkers favor Caroline Kennedy for Senate in new poll

I've been a big fan of Caroline Kennedy and I think she would do an awesome job as the next NY Senator. I know many of you disagree but let's not kid ourselves: Caroline Kennedy could definitely beat Republican Peter King in an election. A new poll released by Public Policy Polling and published in the Buffalo News shows Caroline Kennedy polling at 44% vs.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
