Regional Chair updates & more...

For those of you who stay up to date and just cant get enough CDNY news, here's the latest on the CDNY Regional Director position updates: 1. North Country Chair: Molly Williams has agreed to resign from her post as North Country Regional Director due to lack of time that she can devote to the position. Andrew Desmarais, the chapter president at SUNY Plattsburgh has submitted a letter of intent for the position and will be appointed to the position, pending an e-board confirmation which will be held sometime in the next week or so.

CDNY Convention moving full steam ahead

I just finished chatting online with Nick Roloson, the brains behind operations at St. Johns dems and their CDNY Convention planning. They've got a strong crew down there and have been doing a fine job with planning the CDNY convention. We've put together a strong list of people we want to invite for panels, speakers and events and the invitations are nearly completed, hot off the press. Within the week, invitations are expected to be sent out. More news: Today the St. Johns student government is expected to vote on whether to give St.

Reactions to Senator Gillibrand

Its official: Kristen Gillibrand has been appointed by NY Governor Paterson to be the junior Senator for the great state of New York. So how does everyone feel about the pick? At first I was a little disappointed because she is known as a "Blue Dog" Democrat and I would have preferred a more progressive candidate. However, after second analysis of the pick, I like Gillibrand for the spot. I firmly believe that she will shift her views to the left and her district status as R+3 in a conservative leaning district has to be taken into account.

My facebook message from New York Governor Paterson

Woa! I can't tell you how shocked and pleasantly surprised I was today to receive an email notice saying that I had just received an email from NY Governor Paterson. His message is below:
Subject: Thank You Hi Daniel, Thank you for reaching out to me. As I address the legislature today giving the State of the State, I ask for all of New York to come together during these tough times.

CDNY & St. Johns dems e-board meet to plan convention

Today the CDNY e-board and members of the St. Johns e-board met on the St. Johns Manhattan campus in NYC to discuss planning the 2009 CDNY Convention.

2009 CDNY Convention moved to April 17-19

The 2009 CDNY Convention will be moved to April 17-19. The reason for the change in date is because the hotel where students were initially scheduled to stay mistakenly double booked for our original weekend in March. The change in date will the CDNY eboard more time to plan the convention and make it the best ever. More details about the CDNY Convention can be viewed via facebook on in updates on our blog.

CDNY organization updates

Some organizational CDNY updates for those of you who are members: 1. The CDNY executive board will be meeting tomorrow (Tues) in NYC at the St. Johns campus to plan the CDNY Convention. Some of the chapter presidents from the NYC region will also be in attendance in the meeting. Discussion will focus on targeting politicians for panels and speakers, finalizing a convention schedule, sending out invitations to politicians, and much more. 2.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
