Gov Paterson reschedules Binghamton town forum for Feb 11

In my last blog post, I mentioned that Governor Paterson would be in Binghamton this past Wednesday for a town hall forum. Paterson needed to reschedule the town hall meeting for Wednesday Feb 11, after getting called down to Washington by President Obama. The forum will take place @5pm at Broome Community College. Luckily for me, my journalism professor cancelled class next Wednesday because he works for the local paper and has to cover the event.

A must-read article on Plouffe & Organizing For America

I just finished reading this amazing article on Esquire Magazine online about Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe. The article link is here: http://www.esquire.com/features/david-plouffe-0309 The lengthy article details Plouffe's personality and how he became the mastermind behind Obama's nationwide campaign for change. The best part of the article, is Plouffe's strategy for the creation of "Organizing For America," a grassroots organization which Plouffe has been setting up with new DNC Chairman Tim Kaine.  Organizing for America.

Gov Paterson Coming to Binghamton Wednesday to discuss the economy and education

Sitting in my student government meeting at Binghamton University, I was just informed that Governor Paterson will be visiting Binghamton this Wednesday @5:30pm.

CDNY ready for action in NY-20

The dust is finally starting to settle in the NY-20 Congressional race. As you know, Gillibrand was Governor Paterson's pick to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate, opening up a vacancy in the congressional spot. Instead of their being a primary or appointment to the position, the NY-20 featured the heads of the Democratic and Republican chairs in the NY-20 picking their party's respective candidate to run against each other in a special election. The Republicans picked James Tedisco, the Assembly minority leader, who doesn't even live in the district.

Binghamton University President blasts Paterson over budget cuts

In today's edition of the Pipe Dream, Binghamton University's school newspaper, University President Lois DeFleur had some not so nice words to say to Governor Paterson:
"To be honest about it, the governor and his people are looking for any place they can find dollars. This is exactly the wrong approach to take because we so much need to have more college oriented people in our state, and we want to retain them in our state."
Binghamton University is facing a $6.5 million budget cut and the SUNY system is facing cuts of $210 million.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
