CDNY moving quickly to plan NY-20 Campaign Invasions

Yesterday, Governor Paterson announced that the special election for New York's 20th Congressional District, will be held on Tuesday March 31. CDNY has already been in contact with the Scott Murphy for Congress campaign, and we are organizing quickly our members throughout the state to help keep control of this Democratic held seat, by former Congresswoman and now Senator, Kristen Gillibrand. Tentatively, our CDNY campaign invasion will be the two weekends right before the election: March 21,22 & March 28, 29.

Reactions & Reporting from Gov Paterson's town hall in Binghamton

As promised, the College Democrats were in attendance at Governor Paterson's town hall meeting in Binghamton, NY tonight.

Gov Paterson to announce date of special election in NY-20 today

Governor Paterson will be making an announcement date of the date of the special election in New York's 20th Congressional District. As you probably know, Congresswoman Gillibrand has taken Hillary Clinton's Senate Seat, thus leaving a vacancy. There will not be a primary due to election regulations in the district.

Unions and Protestors Gear up for Gov Paterson's Visit to Binghamton

As previously mentioned on our blog entries, Governor Paterson will be continuing his upstate tour to promote his budget plan, visiting Binghamton this Wednesday. Although questions will be screened (they needed to be submitted online before the event), Governor Paterson is expected to answer a wide range of questions about SUNY budget cuts, and the economy. Doors will open at Broome Community College starting at 4:30pm. As a Binghamton University senior, I was a little dissapointed that the Governor will not be speaking at my school.

Open Left founder Mike Lux to Speak at the College Dems of NY Convention

Last night on our College Democrats of NY conference call, our executive board approved of having Mike Lux speak at our CDNY Convention taking place Friday April 17- Sunday April 19. at St. Johns University in NYC. Mike Lux was a former aide to President Clinton and was on the Obama transition team as the "Progressive Liason." Mike will be speaking to our expected crowd of 175 college democrat members on Saturday morning, sometime after 10am. The exact time is still to be determined. Mike is also the founder of the blog, Open Left.

Notes from the CDNY eboard conference call

Here's the skinny from the CDNY eboard conference call last night:
  • Andrew and Max were both confirmed by the eboard as CDNY's newest regional chairs. Andrew will be in charge of the North Country Region and Max will be the new Central Regional Chair.
  • Convention housing: we are still in the process of finalizing the details for housing arrangements.
  • Our first speaker for our Convention has been confirmed and it will be Mike Lux who will be speaking sometime Saturday morning after 10am.

CDNY Convention numbers keep growing & growing & growing...

This is just staggering: last year we had about 60 students attend the CDNY Convention at Cornell. This year our CDNY Convention is at St. John's University in NYC and we are estimating that we will more than double that amount!

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
