State Senator Liz Krueger attending the CDNY Convention

I was excited today to get a call from State Senator Liz Krueger's staff, informing us that she will be attending our College Dems of New York Convention in April. On Saturday, April 18, CDNY will be hosting its state senate panel consisting of our Democratic State Senators who will be making big changes in Albany this coming year. We finally have a Democratic majority in the State Senate for the first time in more than 40 years. Senator Krueger is the second Senator joining us, along with Long Island Senator Brian Foley.

Last night, President Barack Obama delivered an inspiring speech to a joint session of Congress, outlining how he will decrease the deficit by half in the next year, and how he intends on starting the long process of getting our country out of the recession and out of two wars oversees.

NY-20: Republican candidate Tedisco is a Liar and a Coward

You know that $787 billion stimulus bill that Congress passed and not a single House Republican voted for? You know that same $787 billion stimulus bill that all three of New York's Congressional Republicans voted against? Well, for that same stimulus bill, Republican candidate Jim Tedisco running for the NY-20 Congressional seat, is refusing to take a stance on how he would have voted on the bill had he been in Congress: http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=771616&category=O... His refusal to admit that he would have, without a doubt, voted with the rest of the Rep

On Tuesday, President Obama signed the stimulus bill into law. The bill's total cost, will be $787 Billion, with all Senate Democrats voting for the bill along with three Republican moderates: Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, Susan Collins and Olympia Snow, both from Maine. Here is the email President Obama sent out to his supporters:
The recovery plan will create or save 3.5 million jobs, provide tax cuts for working and middle-class families, and invest in health care and clean energy.

NY-20 Special Election: The Latest News & Updates

It was only this past week on Wednesday that New York Governor David Paterson (D) announced that Tuesday March 31 will be the set date of the special election for the NY-20 Congressional District. The congressional district was left vacant once Governor Paterson appointed Congresswoman Gillibrand to the Senate to fill the void of Hillary Clinton. The special election will be a tough fight: It features Democratic businessman Scott Murphy, who lives in the district, against Joe Bruno-lackey James Tedisco, the current Assembly Minority Leader who doesn't even live in the district.

We are very pleased to announce that State Senator Brian Foley will be attending and speaking at the CDNY Convention. He will be speaking on a panel of state senators in speaking about their experiences on the state legislature. Also speaking at the convention will be New York Assemblyman Rory Lancman and City Councilman Tony Avella. We are very excited about having these politicians speak at our Convention at St. John's University, being held April 17-19. We are still awaiting the invitation responses from the other politicians who were sent invites.

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
