Fighting Poverty

Respect the Youth Vote

There's one last day to register in New York, so for those of you that are procrastinating, get your registrations today! (And, if you still need to fill out a registration form, http://VoteForChange.com is the place to go to get one). But registering to vote is only the first step in the process. You can also request an absentee ballot, confirm your voter registration went through, and you still have to vote on November 4th.

There's only a few days left to register, here are the tools to help you do so.

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming election is quickly approaching, so it's getting down to the wire to get yourself, your friends, and your family registered to vote. I'm going to make the brash assumption that if you're reading this, you've already registered, but if you want to help your friends out, there are easy tools online to do so. The first is http://www.voteforchange.com/ .

The Overwhelming Youth Support for Obama

On the CDNY blog, we've been talking a lot about Democrats participating in voter registration drive and campus invasions. Well, according to a new poll released on Tuesday by Rock the Vote, our work is starting to pay off.

Alternative Energy

A few weeks ago our very own Brian Young, the Communications Director of CDNY, was on BlogTalkRadio discussing Obama's and McCain's energy policies. Brian debated Charlie Smith, the chairman of the College Republican National Committee. The whole episode of BlogTalkRadio is below, and here's a good excerpt from Brian:
“In 10 years, we could already have an affordable [alternative] fuel source…The studies say that, if we drill offshore, it would only reduce our gas prices by 1 to 2 percent.”

A quick CDA update

Hi everyone, just a quick update from the College Democrats of America Convention. There's a lot of stuff going on, all week, so we'll have a full recap later this week. The quick update: last night, Howard Dean spoke to CDA in the opening keynote address. We also got to see the C-SPAN bus (side note: if the C-SPAN bus were to get in a vechicle fight with the Straight Talk Express, the bus would definitely win), and tomorrow the keynote speaker is Newark mayor Corey Booker. That's all for now.

The Future OF CDNY

Welcome to the New CDNY blog, the home for progressive student politics.  Today ushers in a new day for CDNY as we kick off our Fall 2008 campaign season.  In less then a week, students from all over the state will be flocking back to their colleges, eager to see their friends, begin classes, and make a real difference in the general state of NY politics.  Across the state students will be working to turn the State senate Blue, to turn Upstate Congressional districts blue, and to elect Barack Obama as President.  This can not be done without support from both students and allies.  Students, pl

“As the CBO analysis shows, the Recovery Act has lessened the effects of the worst recession in a generation and is beginning to help turn things around.

“The CBO found the Recovery Act is responsible for 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs and has raised GDP by 1.2 to 3.2 percent. Without the Recovery Act these jobs would have either disappeared or never existed in the first place and this positive economic growth would not have been possible.

“Our economy still has a long way to go and we will not rest until everyone who wants a job can find one, but the economy is no longer in a free-fall. Democrats in Congress showed real leadership by supporting the Recovery Act. Unfortunately, Republicans - the Party of NO -refused to offer an alternative. They stood on the sidelines as President Obama and Congressional Democrats took the steps necessary to reverse the economic decline they inherited after eight years of failed Republican economic policies. Now, by cheering for the Act’s failure, the GOP remains on the wrong side of history. As President Obama and Democrats continue to take steps to strengthen our economy, it’s time for Republicans to stop saying 'No', quit playing politics and start working with us on behalf of American families and workers.” Read More...
