NY New Senator
Ever since NY has picked a new senator, I have been thinking about the direction that the state is taking. NY the state that gave Obama one of the largest victories in the country, has appointed a Senator who is rated by the National Review as the most conservative representative in the NY Congressional delegation. Our governor has pick the only representative in NY that received an A rating from the NRA. The next highest Democratic ranking was Congressman Arcuri with a C- rating. This is to not even mention her position on immigration. A position which seems reprehensible in NY state.
At the same time we know that she will become more liberal as her time in the Senate goes on. She has already decided that she is now for Gay Marriage after she was against it. What else will she change? We all know that for Gillibrand to get through a Democratic primary she is going to need to begin to move to the left. If she wants to get elected, maybe she should work on a few items that might help her win the state.
1. Gun Control: It has been well documented how she has historically been tied to the NRA. NY is not the place to be the pawn of the NRA. NY is a state that has realized the need for real gun control and the other politicians in NY have realized that. To stay in the Senate she is going to have to prove that she can think on her own and can work to control guns.
2. In a state that has one of the largest immigrant populations and a huge need for immigrant labor, Sen. Gillibrand needs to be brought up to speed on this issue and get away from the hate mongering lines that people like Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh and the right use. Senator Gillibrand go out to the Hamptons in the summer and find out why your rich backers can't spend the summer out there, because your anti immigrant friends blocked work visa's for seasonal workers. Is pushing for a real immigration solution going to cost you NYC? Is it going to cost you Democratic votes?
Here at the College Democrats of NY we have worked hard to elect Kristen Gillibrand to the Congress. Now that she is the senator from NY, we are going to hold judgment on her until she proves to us that she will stand up for NY and protect NY rather then being a DINO.
