A Word about Guns
I just saw over on Spin Cycle a post that questions why the NRA has not gotten involved in the Plaxico Burress incident. Well here are some thoughts.
First, while the NRA claims to want everyone in America to be allowed to own guns, they don't really mean everyone. What they really want is for every white person to own a gun.
Second, shouldn't the NRA be using this as a talking point against the gun hating Mike Bloomberg? It would seem to me that they would want guns to be allowed in clubs because god forbid a drunk person tried to fight with Burress, the NRA would want him to be allowed to defend himself.
In all truthfulness, the NRA is a right wing joke. What the United States needs is real gun control. The Second Amendment was written at a time when the most dangerous weapon fired one shot at a time. I believe that if Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and James Madison were alive today, they would feel that an AK-47 shouldn't be legal. I think that we need to make laws stronger against people who carry guns illegally. A person should need to be licensed to carry a firearm. Why do I need a license to drive a car but i shouldn't need one to carry around a weapon that's only goal is to injure or kill someone? What the United States needs is stricter gun laws. We need to bring back the Assault Weapons Ban. We need to have stronger background check laws and we need to strengthen sentencing for people that carry firearms illegally. I really hope that Burris sees the mandatory three and a half years in jail. I think that will teach not only him, but others as well, a lesson, and show that our politicians aren't in the pocket of the gun lobby. We should follow the lead of Congresswomen Carolyn McCarthy and bring real gun control to America now.
