On June 24th New York became the sixth state to recognize and perform same-sex marriages. The College Democrats of New York proudly stand by the gay and lesbian community to say thank you to the members of the New York State Legislature and all those who worked hard to come together for this bill's passage.

Washington, DC (June 19, 2011) – The University at Albany College Democrats have been chosen as the College Democrats of America’s 2011 Chapter of the Year. The award is a national honor that recognizes the outstanding work a single College Democrats chapter has accomplished in promoting Democratic ideals and values.

The past two weeks have brought a dark time throughout the political landscape of our great state of New York. For several weeks already, rumors of a looming “bombshell” had been swirling around embattled Governor David Paterson. Discussions of his personal and marital life were the topic of the rumored “bombshell” but it later came to light that Governor Paterson himself, was not necessarily the center of the story. The New York Times’ story regarding Paterson aide David Johnson was the beginning of the end of Governor Paterson’s bid for election in 2010.

A clear no-tolerance policy for any misconduct or abuse of power

Yesterday, February 10, 2010, the State Senate announced the expulsion of State Senator Monserrate because of his conviction of misdemeanor assault charges. The College Democrats of New York are proud of this decision and echo the message that misconduct and domestic abuse should never be tolerated.

* Make sure you have a form of identification. This is not necessary if you have voted at a given polling place previously but it is always a good thing to take to the polls.
* If you are supporting a certain candidate (even if they are not on the ballot at the given polling place) make sure you are not wearing any form of campaign paraphernalia (buttons, stickers, shirts, etc).
* If you are ON LINE at a polling place prior to 9pm, when the polls close, you are entitled to cast your ballot even after 9pm.
